Player of the match Kirsty McLaughlin: “Hopefully we can kick on”

Kirsty McLaughlin

Kirsty McLaughlin was pleased to Celtic reap the rewards of their hard work after the Hoops moved above Hibs into second after a resounding 3-0 win.

The midfielder was awarded the player of the match after setting up Sarah Ewens for the opener and delivering the corner for Chloe Craig to bury the second, but with every player in the Hoops playing out of their skin meaning the nod could have went to anyone, she admits it made it even sweeter.

“I feel delighted, but first and foremost it was about getting the three points for the team, so as much as I have player of the match it was definitely a team performance today, it’s just great all around,” she began.

With the win, McLaughlin reflected on the progress made and shared her excitement and anticipation for what’s to come as the Hoops look ahead to just two more games before the extended summer break.

“We’ve been working hard in training and its paid off today so hopefully we can kick on.

“Personally, I think it doesn’t get any easier but as a team as a whole we’re getting closer and closer, and today just shows we can go and beat the best in the league, so the gap is definitely closing.

“Hopefully we can kick on and when we play City it will be another close game as well,” she said.

While it could be a source of frustration not having a game this weekend to throw themselves straight into after such a huge win, the midfielder says they’ll just have to adapt and use the time as best they can.

“It’s a free weekend but we’ll just use that to our advantage and recharge. We have two games in a week coming up so it may benefit us having a wee week off to get together,” she concluded.

Celtic now play Spartans at home on Thursday, May 15 at K-Park, East Kilbride. KO: 7pm.
