Kat Smart – “It’ll be great to wear the Celtic strip”

New Ghirl Kat Smart is hoping she can make her first competitive appearance for Celtic in the club’s 2019 opener against Forfar Farmington, after impressing in a demanding pre-season schedule.

The attacking midfielder, who joined up with the squad in January in a move from Hutchie Vale, explained she was drawn to the club for a number of reasons and is eager to make an impact in any way she can.

“It’s always a challenging game the first game of the season,” she began.

“You never know how everyone else has done in pre-season, so regardless of wherever they finished last season, you always have to know it’ll be a tough game and go in 100% focussed and working together. It’s a bit of a clean sheet. Over the winter, new players come in, players leave and you never really know what a team is going to be like.

“Hopefully I’ll make an appearance at some point. Whether it’s starting or coming on as a sub, it’ll obviously be great to wear the Celtic strip and be on the pitch with the rest of the girls.”

The ex-skier has been on manager Eddie Wolecki Black’s radar for some time, and the prospect of working with the manager was one of many large contributing factors as she swapped Edinburgh for Glasgow.

“There’s lots of things that made me come here.

“The club, Eddie and his reputation, the girls in the team, and what the club are going to do. They’re definitely leading the way in women’s football in Scotland - it’s great that we have the support of the club and it’s exciting to see where it goes and how far we can go.”

Celtic play Forfar Farmington in the first game of the 2019 season on Sunday, February 10 at K-Park in East Kilbride in a 2pm kick-off.
