Haley: Clinical Academy will keep going until the end

Academy manager David Haley applauded his side after their 9-0 victory over Spartans Development in their last home game of the season and said it reinforced they were “not a team that will stumble over the line.”

The rout saw Monica Forsyth register a hat-trick, Kaitlyn Canavan and Emma Craig bag doubles and Rebecca McAllister and Darcy Molley get on the scoresheet as the ruthless Celts showed their visitors from Edinburgh no mercy.

And with that relentless performance, Haley was delighted with the overall outcome.

“We were very good and especially in the second half. Usually games like that can go away from you and you end up maybe only one more goal, but we were quite clinical and we’re really pleased to get quite a few different scorers today as well and obviously a cleansheet.

Celtic only held a 2-0 advantage at the break despite having converted twice inside the opening minutes. Recognising Spartans’ growth into the game, Haley said his side responded perfectly as he hailed their second half showing.

“We changed the shape a bit in the second half as well on the back of how Spartans were playing because they were sitting really deep, so it was difficult but we changed it and the girls showed a great response,” he said.

The Hoops’ dominant display was rounded up with Craig netting with the very last kick of the ball to claim an incredible ninth goal on the day, with the hosts still looking hungry and capable of more - showing exactly the type of desire and professionalism Haley is demanding from his side as the season draws to a close.

“We said to them a while ago, that we’re not going to be one of those teams that stumbles over the line or to the end of the season. We’ve set really high standards and the girls are sticking to them and making sure it’s not a case of seeing it out. We’re really trying to finish the season strongly, and games like today shows that.

“We’ll finish the season off nicely with hopefully another victory,” he added.
