Colette Cavanagh with Player of the Month Award

Celtic head to the annual Scottish Women’s Football awards with five nominations under their belts looking to top off a successful 2018.

Two Celts are chasing Goal of the Season, with Colette Cavanagh’s stylish finish after driving through the middle from just outside her own half against Forfar Farmington and Kathleen McGovern’s strike from distance at Hibs both nominated for the Daily Record backed gong. First team manager Eddie Wolecki Black is up for Senior Coach of the Year for his work through the first few months of the season with newly promoted Motherwell. The head coach engineered the Well’s phenomenal SWPL2 championship last season, having cultivated his squad with the right blend of youth and experience to win promotion with an invincible league season and end the year as Scottish Cup runners up.

Celtic are also represented in the shortlist for Youth Player of the Year, with playmaker Ami Robertson from the club’s under-15s side rewarded for her goals and assists with the nomination. Robertson’s National Performance League under-15s side who tasted glory this season are nominated for Youth Team of the Year off the back of success on both Scottish and foreign soil. The squad recorded a successful 2018, storming to a League and League Cup double and Scottish Cup semi-final appearance. Moreover, a select side lead by Stevie Burr travelled to Hjorring in Denmark for the Dana Cup, lifting the trophy after a last minute winner from 13-year-old Keira Chuter sunk Norwegians Viking FK. The feat was the culmination of a gruelling campaign against Danish and Norwegian teams, where following the group stages, the young Celts made their mark from the last 32 onwards, with a watertight defence shipping only one goal in process.

The awards will take place on 17 November at the Hilton Glasgow.
