Celtic vs Forfar Farmington

Following one of Celtic’s most galvanising and productive pre-seasons in recent years, the Celts’ first game of the season is finally on the horizon, with a home tie against Forfar Farmington on Sunday 10 February to open their 2019 account.

With four new faces and a pre-season trip to Germany complete, Eddie Wolecki Black’s side will begin their campaign with a clear demand for success ringing their ears, with three pieces of silverware and a Champions League slot up for grabs.

There was no warm weather training for the Hoops who competed in sub-zero temperatures on German soil in a bid to fully prepare for the season ahead, with the side hoping their industrious January will help them kick-off the new campaign with three points.

Forfar Farmington travel to East Kilbride also marking their own new era, as manager Stevie Baxter oversees his first match following the departure of long-serving Mark Nisbet.

They arrive at K-Park buoyed by not only their new management team, but the return of former Scotland under-19s striker Hannah Stewart, boosting their threat in front of goal. Having ended last season in fifth just two points off fourth placed Rangers, the Ghirls can anticipate a competitive opener to 2019 against Forfar Farmington.

For Celtic, the occasion could see Wolecki Black’s four new signings make their competitive bow, with Emma Black, Kirsty McLaughlin, Kodie Hay and Kat Smart all available. The match marks Celtic’s only home game until mid March, with three weekends on the road immediately following the clash with the Angus side.

The fixture itself proved a fruitful one for Celtic last term, who retained an unblemished record against Farmington, scoring nine, conceding two and booking their League Cup final spot with a 4-1 win. Moreover, their 1-0 victory over the side on September 23 last year recorded Wolecki Black’s first win.
