Celtic move can make me brave, says Atletico striker Anita

New signing Anita Marcos arrives at Celtic with a wealth of experience and success behind her beyond her years, but she hopes her loan move from Atletico Madrid will be what “makes her brave”.

The striker, who goes by Anita, has joined the Hoops on loan from Atletico with two Under-19s European Championship medals, two Primera División (La Liga) titles and having finished the Ateltico B-team’s top scorer for the last three years.

Additionally, she brings crucial Champions League experience from the Madrid side, but she is determined to develop even further in the green and white.

“I'm very happy because it's a very good opportunity for me and I want to grow here with my teammates, my coach and I'm very happy to be with this club,” she said at Celtic Park.

The 19-year-old becomes the third Spaniard to join the club, following manager Fran Alonso and midfielder Brenda from Femarguin, and when the opportunity arose, it was one she jumped at, despite uprooting her whole life at a tender age.

“One day Fran called me and he told me the project, and I liked and I think I can be a better player with this team and I can learn a lot here.

“I think all the leagues are different but you have to be patient and be ready for anything. I want to take it 100% and fight to have a good season here at Celtic.

“I think this will make me brave and make me fight and grow. It’s very good for me and I can't wait to start,” she said.

Despite the cultural shift involved in moving from the Spanish capital to Glasgow, she isn’t fazed by it and is ready to throw herself right into it, starting with this Friday’s league opener against champions Glasgow City.

“I only think about football because it is my life. But I want to take the chance and enjoy another culture, so it's just about getting used to it.

I'm very excited, I just can’t wait to help the team,” she added.
