Celtic FC Women are delighted to secure the services of commanding centre-half, Caitlin Hayes for the 2020/21 season from English Championship side, Lewes.

The Warrington-born player said the opportunity to reunite with former Lewes boss Fran Alonso and join her "family team" was too good to pass up, as she eyes her place in the manager's plans.

Initially cutting her teeth at Manchester City, Manchester United and Everton, the 24-year-old played in the States with Mississippi College before swapping the college game for Champions League with Cypriot outfit Barcelona FA.

With 13 goals in 28 appearances in Cyprus, she adds another scoring threat to Celtic's attacking arsenal.

Most recently, she returned to England and Alonso's Lewes, and now she can't wait for her latest challenge.

She said: "It's obviously really exciting times with what Celtic are doing, going full time and investing money and what's happening to the women's game in Scotland in general. It's also attractive because it's nice to be part of something that's building.

"It's my family team as well. I was brought up in a Rugby League house, but I was running around in Celtic tops when I was a kid, so that was also a big lure to the club because I was brought up watching and supporting them, from a distance obviously but I'm super honoured and it's a blessing to be here.

"I really liked playing under Fran at Lewes. It's important for me to play for a coach and feel valued and seen as a person before a player, and everything Fran does demonstrates that he sees the person first.

“That is why he gets the reaction he gets, that wanting to run through a brick wall for him and the belief and trust in what he puts in place."

The defender boasts a scoring record in her Champions League career too, and admitted the club's Euro ambition was another huge draw.

Hayes added: "I played Champions League in Cyprus but the whole atmosphere and environment the Champions League creates in a team is unlike any competition I've been a part of. The excitement of travelling and everything about it is something I'll never forget, and it's huge to know this is a team also striving for that.

"I'm super excited to get going now after everything that has happened."
