Erin Rennie: I’ve developed a lot at Celtic

After a whirlwind first season in the Hoops, midfielder Erin Rennie is delighted with the progress she has made since linking up with the club and admitted it’s been a big step up.

The central midfielder’s maiden year at Celtic seen Erin lift her first piece of silverware in the form of the League Cup, travel to France for an elite European under-19s tournament at just 16, push eventual league champions Glasgow City all the way, and ultimately lift the under-17s Scottish Cup.

But it’s not just the cup double that she achieved across the Academy side and under-17s Scottish Cup squad that she is reflective on, but also the development she has made as a player.

"I feel like I've developed a lot since coming in,” she began, “the training is a lot more physically demanding at Celtic and I think I'm playing at a better level.”

Rennie swapped the red and white Hoops of Hamilton Accies for Glasgow’s green and white for the 2019 season, and having only played at youth level, the step up to the SWFL1 was a challenging, but rewarding one.

"Previously I was playing in a different league that wasn't as challenging, so obviously playing against women has made me a lot more physical which has obviously brought my game on too.

"Obviously the Celtic name comes with winning and I hadn't won many things with my previous clubs so it was good to get that League Cup and Scottish Cup.”

The 17-year-old commented on the togetherness the group fostered across the season, and said she hopes for more of the same as the new-look under-19s.

"I feel like the girls came together as a group really well. The girls have been brilliant since I came in and really welcoming so it's been brilliant in that sense and I can’t wait for more of the same!” she added.
