Emma Craig: “There’s nothing better than winning a cup”

Hat-trick hero Emma Craig admitted she was delighted with retaining the SWFL Division 1 Cup but scoring a hat-trick was the icing on the cake.

Winger Craig scored three in Celtic Academy’s 6-0 demolition of Renfrew in the final and said she felt they turned in a performance worthy of holding onto the cup and making it two-in-a-row.

“I thought we played really well. We kept the ball, moved it, cancelled out their threat and I’m obviously buzzing – nothing better than winning a cup!

“That was a great feeling as well and today it’s great to do it again today, to score a hat-trick tops it all off,” she admitted.

Craig was part of the side that beat Hibs under-23s 1-0 in last year’s final and said going into this year’s campaign as reigning champions did help the girls’ belief and that they used it to their advantage when they could.

“It’s obviously nice to retain it and that’s all everyone wants to do. But it’s always there, you want to be the best and people to fear you for it, so it was always in our minds, but we just focussed on each game at a time. It always helps.” the 18-year-old said.

Craig opened her account from the spot in the first half, before knocking in from close range for her second, but it was her third that seen her cut through the middle from just inside the Renfrew half to bag her hat-trick that was he favourite.

“It needs to be the third, but I’m happy with all of them,” she told.

Celtic now look to make it a double and secure the SWFL1 title this year after it just evaded them last outing, but the winger isn’t getting carried away after Friday’s highs.

She said: “It’s a competitive league we’re in, so we’ll take every game as it comes and hopefully win that as well.”
