WITH a Celtic under-15s side preparing to head out to
Denmark to defend their Dana Cup trophy, here is all you need to know about the
competition this year.
What is the Dana Cup?
The Dana Cup is an international multi-age tournament for boys
and girls held every year in Hjorring, Denmark. The Danish tournament, which
has been running since 1982, holds competitive tournaments for under-12s all
the way up to under-19s, and Celtic will be represented in the Girls Under-15s.
Who is travelling
with Celtic?
Edward Gallagher’s squad is comprised of a fifty-fifty split
of experience and youth with eight players from last year’s victorious side
returning and eight debutantes. The squad is made up of; Rachael Johnstone,
Philippa MacConnell, Carleen Dolan, Abbie Cusack, Paige McAllister, Kacey
Watson, Maria McAneny, Kate Nicolson, Olivia Potter, Olivia King, Aimee
Anderson, Summer Christie, Megan McKay, Morgan Graham, Abbie Ferguson and
Rebecca McAllister.
Celtic's staff will be made up of; Edward Gallagher, David
Haley, Daniel McLaughlin and Sarah Ewens.
Who will Celtic play?
The Ghirls have been drawn in Group 3 of the Girls Under-15s
competition in the tournament, and will face tough tests against Norwegian
sides Freidig SPK, Nanset IF and Stord FB.
When will Celtic
play?

campaign on Tuesday, July 23 at 11:10am, they play their first match against
Stord, before facing Nanset on Wednesday at 10:30am. Later that evening, they
will complete the group stage against Freidig, with that match kicking off at
5:50pm. All kick-off times are Celtic Park Time.
If they advance from the group, they will be drafted into
either Playoff A or B. They will play in Playoff A should they finish first,
and B if they come in second.
How did the Hoops
fare last year?
Celtic took the trophy home last year and are hoping to repeat
that success this summer.
The Hoops lifted the trophy in 2018 after a last-minute
winner from Keira Chuter sunk Norwegians Viking FK to cap off a brilliant week
for the Celts.
The feat was the culmination of a gruelling campaign against
Danish and Norwegian teams. Following the group stages, the young Celts made
their mark from the last 32 onwards with a watertight defence shipping only one
goal in process.
How can I follow the
action?
The Celts will bring you updates live from the ground in Denmark, meaning
you can follow the Ghirls in action throughout the tournament.
The tournament will take place July 22-27 in Hjorring,
Denmark.
